Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
Do I need any experience to try a class?
No experience is needed at all. Most people who walk through our doors are brand new to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Classes are designed so beginners can jump in, learn safely, and build confidence at their own pace.
How does the free class work?
Once you fill out the form, we’ll reach out to help you schedule a class that fits your schedule. You’ll come in, train with us, and get a feel for how classes run, no pressure and no obligation to sign up.
What should I wear to my first class?
Comfortable workout clothes are perfect. A t-shirt and athletic shorts, sweatpants or leggings work great. If you continue training, we’ll help you with uniform options later.
Do I need to be in shape before starting?
Not at all. Training is how you get in shape. Classes are scaled so everyone can participate, regardless of fitness level or background.
Kids and Teens Program
Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu safe for kids?
Safety is a top priority. Classes are structured, closely supervised, and age-appropriate. We focus on control, awareness, and respect so kids can learn and grow in a positive environment.
What ages is the kids and teens program designed for?
Our kids and teens program is designed for children ages 5–13. Older teens often participate in our adult classes, where they tend to do very well. That said, placement is always discussed with families and decided on an individual basis, taking into account age, maturity, experience, and comfort level.
What if my child is shy or nervous?
That’s very common. We see it all the time. Classes are welcoming, structured, and supportive, which helps kids feel comfortable quickly. Many parents tell us their child becomes more confident both on and off the mat.
Is this about fighting?
No. While Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art, our kids program emphasizes movement, problem-solving, confidence, and teamwork. The goal is personal growth, not aggression.
Adult Program
Am I too old to start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Not at all. Adults of all ages train here (our oldest member is 70!) Classes are adaptable, and you’re encouraged to work at a pace that makes sense for your body and goals.
Is this gym beginner-friendly?
Yes. Our adult program is built to support beginners while still challenging more experienced students. You won’t be thrown into something you’re not ready for.
Is training super intense or competitive?
Training can be challenging, but it’s not about ego or proving anything. We focus on learning, problem-solving, and steady improvement in a respectful environment.
Membership & Logistics
Are there contracts or sign-up fees?
No. There are no contracts, no sign-up fees, and no hidden costs. We want people here because they want to train, not because they’re locked into anything.
What membership options do you offer?
We offer:
$150/month for unlimited training
$200 class pass for 10 adult classes
$99 intro month for new students
We’re always happy to explain options and help you choose what makes sense.
Where are you located, and who do you serve?
We’re located in Glenside and serve members from Abington, Upper Dublin, Springfield Township, Chestnut Hill, Mt. Airy, Germantown, and surrounding areas.
What happens after the free class?
If you enjoy the class, we’ll walk you through next steps. If it’s not the right fit, that’s completely okay, no pressure either way.
Scheduling Your First Class
How do we get started?
The first step is to schedule a free class. Once you submit the form, we’ll reach out to help you choose a class and answer any initial questions.
What happens after the free class?
After the class, we’ll check in to see how it went and talk through next steps if you’re interested in continuing. There’s no pressure to sign up, we want to make sure it feels like a good fit first.
How do we sign up if we decide to continue?
If you choose to move forward, we’ll walk you through the membership options and help you get set up. The process is simple and can be done quickly.
Do we need to decide right away?
No. We encourage families and adults to take the time they need to decide. There’s no obligation after the free class.
Is there a long-term commitment?
No. There are no contracts, no sign-up fees, and no hidden costs. You can train month-to-month and adjust as needed.
